Finding the perfect balance between price and features in budget smartphones can feel like searching for a needle in a haystack. Enter the Oppo A80, a device designed to offer impressive features while keeping costs low. Priced at 58,999rs in Pakistan, this phone promises solid build quality, dependable performance, and a few surprises. In this review, I’ll take you through its design, display, performance, and more to help you decide if this is the right phone.
Design and Display
First, let’s talk about the design. It’s built around a 6.67-inch LCD with a refresh rate of 120Hz. Now, LCD is an interesting choice here. It lets them make the screen a bit brighter, which means it’s a bit nicer in direct sunlight but maybe less colour-vibrant than some OLED screens you see on competing models at this price point.
The resolution equates to just 720p, which is one of those choices you see in budget phones. Every budget phone has to choose which features to include and which to skip.
Bezel and Color Options
The screen itself has some noticeable bezels. If that’s a problem for you, it’s worth noting. I do like the colour choices on offer. There are only two: Starry Black and Moonlit Purple.
Build Quality and Durability
At 58,999rs in Pakistan, the Oppo A80 offers a surprisingly solid build quality. It’s IP54-rated, which means it can handle some rain but not total immersion. Oppo also claims military-standard testing for drops and breakage.
Handling and Accessories
The phone feels a little slippery in the hand. Unfortunately, there’s no included case in the box, so you’ll need to purchase one separately.
Ports and Controls
The controls are straightforward: volume buttons, a biometric fingerprint reader, and a power button on the side. At the bottom, there’s USB-C for power and data and a 3.5mm headphone jack—a nice touch in today’s phone market.
Camera Performance
Oppo is known as a camera phone company, but you shouldn’t expect something other than incredible performance at this price. While everyday photos are fine, low-light and zoom capabilities are limited.
The Oppo A80 also includes an AI Eraser feature. While it’s conceptually similar to Google’s Magic Eraser, it relies heavily on cloud processing and delivered mixed results in my tests.
Performance and Benchmarking
The phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, which has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which can be expanded via microSD. It performs reasonably well in terms of price range.
Software and Updates
Oppo promises two years of OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates. ColorOS, Oppo’s Android skin, is bright and functional but might only suit everyone’s tastes.
Network and Connectivity
The Oppo A80 is 5G-capable, with decent speeds on sub-6GHz networks. It performs well enough for its price point.
Battery Life and Charging
The Oppo A80 features a 5,100mAh battery, offering solid battery life. It supports 45W SuperVOOC charging, but the box does not include the necessary charger.
Worth to Buy Oppo A80?
Should you buy the Oppo A80? It’s a solid competitor in the budget phone category. While the Moto G85 edges it out in some areas, the Oppo A80 is still a reliable choice with good battery life, decent cameras, and sturdy build quality.
